What an exciting, tiring, and wonderful week we've had!! We are happy to announce the arrival of our baby girl!!! Adeline Belle Squire born on 2/21/10, 8lbs 4oz, 22 in long.
If anyone wants to spare themselves from the birth story details skip this paragraph. Anyway on friday we had our 41 wk appt. and were told still dilated to 4 and that we could schedule testing for induction on monday. We went home and went out to eat thinking it would be a long weekend. On saturday we decided to get out and about go to toy store, petco, some shopping etc. Shortly after we got home my water broke! All I could think was thank god I wasn't in toys r us!!! ha ha I was excited thinking finally this is it! We called dr and were told we could wait at home and contrations were sure to kick in within 6 hrs. They did and by 10 or 11 they were getting close together. By midnight we were leaving for hospital. I was in pain but it was bearable. I was sure this was going to be a quick labor and that I would be able to follow my birth plan!!! ha ha yeah right!! I think I did everything that I said I wasn't going to do or take!!
By 3am I was only dilated to 5 and contrations were right on top of each other with no relief. I was feeling miserable and shortly after being told this was going to take a while I gave in and they gave me Nubain. I was feeling very loopy, but still in a ton of pain. Shortly after that I was yelling for chris to have them get me an epidural!! ha ha I swore that I wouldn't get one!! It didn't hurt to get at all, but I had a hard time not visualizing it, since I'm a nurse. It was a great relief and I quickly dilated to 8! I thought wow now it's going to be fast. Wrong!! They let me push just to see what would happen after 40 or so min. I was told to rest get a boost in my epidural because I would have to push like that for 3 more hrs if we tried now!!!! Also forgot to add that the edidural made my blood pressure drop and I was given tons of fluids and effedrin to boost it up. After trying to rest for a couple of hrs they decided it was time for pitocin. I knew this was going to make contractions bad and it did.
This is around the time they decided to turn down the epidural and everythings a little fuzzy after that. Chris said I then moaned like an animal for the rest of labor and just said the pressure, it hurts so bad etc..... I pushed in total for 4 hrs and finally at 1:40 pm she was born.
After delivery I was overwhelmed and couldn't believe it was over. I felt instant relief and couldn't believe that baby was mine! They just had a little problem getting bleeding under control, but I was given cytotec and stiches and was good to go!!
We were able to have grandparents come in soon and moved upstairs. Everyone was so nice and the care was excellent. We couldn't have asked for anymore. Well thats about it for the birth story. New pictures are soon to come!
